Merdeka Square is a historical landmark in Kuala Lumpur. It was here that the Malaysian flag was raised for the first time on August 31, 1957, marking the country's independence from British colonial rule. The square is surrounded by some of the city's most important buildings, including the Sultan Abdul Samad Building and the Royal Selangor Club.
