Contracorriente, also known as Undertow, is a Peruvian drama film directed by Javier Fuentes-León. The story revolves around Miguel, a married fisherman in a small coastal town, who is secretly in love with Santiago, a painter from Lima. When Santiago dies in a tragic accident, his ghost begins to visit Miguel, causing a conflict between his love for Santiago and his responsibilities to his wife and unborn child. Contracorriente explores themes of love, sexuality, and the clash between tradition and personal desires. The film received critical acclaim and won several awards, including the World Cinema Audience Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
