The Bad Intentions, also known as Las malas intenciones, is a Peruvian film directed by Rosario García-Montero. It tells the story of Cayetana, a young girl growing up in Lima during the 1980s. Cayetana is convinced that she will die on the same day that her unborn brother is due to be born, and she begins to act out in various ways to cope with her fear and frustration. The film explores themes of childhood, imagination, and the impact of political violence on individuals and families. The Bad Intentions was selected as the Peruvian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards.
