The Milk of Sorrow is a Peruvian drama film directed by Claudia Llosa. It tells the story of Fausta, a young woman who suffers from a rare disease called 'the milk of sorrow', which is passed down through the breast milk of women who were raped during the time of terrorism in Peru. The film explores themes of trauma, memory, and healing, as Fausta tries to overcome her fears and find her own voice. The Milk of Sorrow won the Golden Bear at the 59th Berlin International Film Festival and was nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 82nd Academy Awards.
